Masterson to make major league debut today

Right hander Justin Masterson will make his first career start Thursday as Boston faces the Angels at Fenway Park at 1:35 pm ET.  Masterson was recalled as the Red Sox battle the flu bug.  Daisuke Matsuzaka was scratched from last night’s start due to illness and today’s projected starter, Jon Lester, moved up to take his place.  Masterson was 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA in four starts at Double-A Portland this season.  In 19 innings, he struck out 23 and walked only five.  Masterson was ranked #12 in our 2006 Pre-Draft Rankings and was our second round pick on our draft team.  Six of the top ten in our pre-draft rankings have made the big leagues, and our top three draft picks on our draft team have done the same.
