After dropping the first game of its conference series against Maryland, North Carolina hammered the Terps on Saturday, winning 14-1. Junior righthander Adam Warren scattered seven hits over six innings and only allowed one run. Seth Williams and Dustin Ackley added home runs for the Tar Heels. Gerry Spessard went 2-3 with a walk in the loss.
North Carolina has several players who could be drafted, including Warren, Williams and catcher Tim Federowicz. Other potential draft picks include senior reliever Rob Wooten, who flashed a plus slider, and third-baseman Chad Flack. The Tar Heels have been the runner up in the College World Series in each of the last two seasons and are ranked No. 3 presently, but they should be even stronger in 2009, when Ackley and ace Alex White will be juniors.
