Scouting report: Army vs. UMBC

Scouting report is a new feature of Pro Baseball Draft Source. As we attend games this spring, we’ll report back with the salient information about the game and the players who could be drafted.

UMBC opened their season on this chilly Friday afternoon in Baltimore in the first of three against Army. Drew Clothier scattered three runs (two earned) and eight hits over seven innings. UMBC took the lead on Mark Lemon’s RBI single in the fifth inning. Army manufactured two runs in the eighth off of UMBC righty Sean Rae to reclaim the lead for good, 4-3.

The game wasn’t rife with talent, but a few players stood out. UMBC catcher Tom Meaney showed a strong arm when he nailed pinch-runner David Darnell at second base. Clothier and Mae are also worth following and I’ve created pages for both. Click on the links above for more information.
