Strengths:
Flaherty is a solid college player whose draft stock will depend on what position scouts envision for him. In high school, Flaherty led his Deering High team to the Maine high school championship where he faced now-Brewers prospect Mark Rogers. He hit a bananas .500 with a .591 on-base percentage against weak competition in his senior season. He’s had success at Vandy as a contact hitter and he proved that he can handle a wood bat with his solid performance for Team USA in the summer of 2007. He has solid range and a strong arm, especially for a big guy.

Weaknesses:
Flaherty’s biggest weakness is his power. He has only hit six homers in his college career and his other power numbers are underwhelming. This is an acceptable package if a team thinks he has the range for shortstop. However, a third-baseman with little power is not going to be enticing for many teams.

The Future:
A team that has faith in him as a shortstop could draft him in the second-round.
