Strengths:
Tate is a scout’s dream: a five-tool athlete from a prestigious baseball factory. He does everything well. Tate has a strong arm (clocked as high as 95 mph), he’s a plus runner (timed at 6.34 seconds in the 60 yard dash) and is a capable hitter. He hits the ball to all fields and the ball jumps off his bat. Tate plays for the East Cobb Braves summer team, a program that has produced hundreds of professional ballplayers. He is the son of former Buccaneers running back Lars Tate.
Weaknesses:
Like many high school position players, Tate needs to strikeout less. He could also stand to be more patient at the plate. He is represented by Scott Boras and will command a high signing bonus.
