Strengths:
McAnaney has some of the best stats of any pitcher in the ACC. His strikeout to walk rates are excellent because he walks so few batters. Although his stuff is average at best, it plays up thanks to his plus-plus command. McAnaney throws from a high sidearm angle, a different look for most teams.
Weaknesses:
While McAnaney deserves praise for his college career, he won’t be more than a #4 starter at best in the majors. His fastball tops out in the high 80s. His overhand curve is his only plus pitch.
The Future:
The Pirates have drafted McAnaney twice and he hasn’t signed. Count on him signing this June. He should be drafted in the top ten rounds in ‘08.
