Strengths:
Being a 6-foot-5 left-handed pitcher isn’t enough? Clegg had good peripheral stats in limited action with Maine before transferring in 2008. He’s now the No. 1 starter at UMass. Clegg throws a high 80s fastball. He also has a decent slider and changeup. He throws a lot of strikes and only walked two (and struck out five) in eight innings against George Washington on April 4.
Weaknesses:
Clegg probably isn’t destined to be a starter in the pros, because his mechanics started falling apart after reaching the 80 pitch mark. When he tires, he flies open and leaves fastballs high and away to righties. His off-speed pitches need work.
The Future:
On projection and peripheral stats, Clegg could be drafted in the top 20 rounds.
