Honors:
- 2008 Brooks Wallace Pre-season Watch List
Strengths:
Burnett is a monster who most frequently draws comparisons to 6-foot-10 2007 first-round pick Andrew Brackman. Burnett is 6-foot-8 and throws a fastball that was clocked as high as 98 in the Cape Cod League and sat at 96. He also throws a splitter and a slider that may develop into at least average pitches.
Weaknesses:
Burnett hasn’t shown good command. He walked over six batters per nine innings at Louisiana Tech in 2007 and didn’t fare much better at the Cape. His stats are poor compared to other premium college pitchers. His velocity is down in 2008.
The Future:
Burnett has moved to the Bulldogs bullpen after a disappointing stint as a starter in 2008. He now projects as a late first round pick or a sandwich selection.
