Honors:
- 2008 Louisville Slugger Pre-season Second-team All American
- 2007 Louisville Slugger Third-team All American
Strengths:
Darnell made great strides in his sophomore campaign and scouts were impressed by his strong showing in the Cape Cod League in 2007. Darnell improved his walk rate, struck out less and bested his power numbers in his second season as a Gamecock and quadrupled his home run total in his second season at the Cape. He has two plus tools: power and arm strength.
Weaknesses:
Pessimists point to holes in his swing to suggest that he won’t hit for a high average as a pro.
The Future:
Darnell will likely be drafted at the end of the first round or in the supplemental round.
