Strengths:
Garcia has been drafted three times and is still an amateur. After tranferring from Potomac State, Garcia has been a weekend starter for Miami in 2007 and 2008. He put up impressive numbers last season but has regressed somewhat in 2008. He has plus command of a 90-92 mph fastball and a sharp curve. He also throws a changeup.
Weaknesses:
It’s easy to see why Garcia could be a reliable #3 starter in the big leagues or miss The Show all together. During his April 12 start at Georgia Tech, he would breeze through innings consistently hitting the catcher’s mitt. However, he had bouts of command trouble and would struggle to find his release point. He doesn’t have the pure stuff to get many strikeouts as a pro, so he’ll need to improve his command if he wants to excel as a pro.
The Future:
Garcia’s stock was higher last year. He will probably taken once more near the 30th round as a senior sign.
