Honors:
- 2007 ACC Honor Roll
Strengths:
Burns is the rare breed of size and performance. He’s 6-foot-8 and lanky (probably lighter than his listed weight). He creates an extreme downhill angle to bury his 90 mph fastball. He also throws a quality curve, a changeup and slurve. He was able to maintain his mechanics and pitch effectively in 2007. He walked only two per nine innings.
Weaknesses:
Burns isn’t pitching as well in 2008, but his peripheral stats are still solid. Burns has lapses in command, especially when he pitches from the stretch. In those situations, it appears that he can’t find a consistent release point. He does a poor job of holding runners on and is slow to the plate.
The Future:
First ten rounds.
