Strengths:
Clothier is a polished southpaw with a three-pitch arsenal. He misses bats with a solid changeup and he spots his fastball effectively. He also has a curve. He has improved every year.
Weaknesses:
He is short on stuff (his fastball reached the upper 70s in his February 29 start vs. UMBC). Clothier’s change up is good, but it’s probably not an outpitch at the major league level. He also throws across his body. Signability is always a concern with players from the academy.
The Future:
If Clothier attended any other school, he would project as a senior sign in the second half of the draft with another impressive season. Clothier’s military commitment clouds that prediction, however. If scouts believe that Clothier will not sign, he won’t get draft at all.
