Honors:
- 2008 Preseason Collegiate Baseball Third-team All-American
Strengths:
Hogan was the unsung hero of the ‘07 Tigers that made the Super-Regionals. As a redshirt junior, he hit for average and power. Through late March, his 2008 statistics have been equally impressive. He’s got an upright stance and he sprays balls to all fields.
Weaknesses:
Hogan has a slight bat wrap that makes him vulnerable to plus fastballs on the inside corner. When I saw him on March 28 vs. Maryland, he showed his lack of mental toughness by committing a catcher’s interference, entering his home run trot on a double and leaving second base early with one out on a fly ball to left field. He had to scramble to beat the return throw.
The Future:
With another quality year, he should be drafted in the first ten rounds.
