Strengths:
Hudson has arguably the best stuff of any CAA pitcher. He throws a heavy 91-93 mph fastball with a plus changeup and a solid slurve. He throws from a high sidearm angle that adds deception and life to his fastball. He has very good command.
Weaknesses:
Hudson struggled on April 11 vs. Towson. Towson hitters looked for fastballs early in counts and were able to hit three home runs. A bigger challenge to Hudson’s professional career is his mechanics. He sharply recoils after delivering each pitch. The mechanics likely add to his deception and fastball life, but they also put added stress on his arm.
The Future:
Hudson should develop into a frontline starter, but only if he can alter his mechanics without losing his deception and plus fastball. He should be taken no later than the fifth round.
