- 2007 NCBWA First-team All-American
- 2007 Baseball America Second-team All-American
Strengths:
Matusz has the total package. He deals with three plus pitches: a 91-94 mph fastball with heavy life, a plus-plus changeup and a plus curve. Scouts love his frame: a 6-foot-4 build that lends itself to more projection. Statisticians point to his numbers: a bananas 11 strikeouts per nine innings in 2007 in the competitive West Coast Conference.
Weaknesses:
Matusz is more of a No. 2 starter in the big leagues as opposed to a true ace.
The Future:
Top 5 picks.
