Honors:
- 2008 Baseball America Preseason All American Third Team
- 2006-7 ACC Honor Roll
Strengths:
Tekotte is the leadoff hitter for a stacked Hurricanes lineup whose top five hitters could sign pro contracts this summer. Tekotte is a true top of the lineup threat, working the count and exhibiting good plate discipline. When he gets a good pitch, he hits it with a fundamentally sound swing, staying back on breaking balls and keeping his hands in on fastballs inside. He has good bat speed and surprising power. He’s a force on the bases and in the field with his plus speed.
Weaknesses:
The biggest knock on Tekotte is his size. He’s only listed at 5-foot-11 and he’s overshadowed literally and figuratively by teammates Yonder Alonso, Dennis Raben and Jemile Weeks. He also needs to tweak his swing.
The Future:
First three rounds.
