Strengths:
Hermsen is one of the most improved high school pitchers in the country, finally showing the stuff that scouts imagined out of his 6-foot-6 frame. Hermsen throws a low 90s sinker that he pairs with a solid change and slider. He’s got clean mechanics so another bump in velocity is conceivable. Hermsen is the highest ranked recruit for two-time defending champions Oregon State and the top high school prospect from Iowa.
Weaknesses:
He doesn’t have as much present stuff as other elite prep pitchers. He hasn’t been challenged by quality high school competition. He’s a strong student, which will make him tough to sign.
