Honors:
- 2008 Brooks Wallace Pre-season Watch List
- 2007 All-ACC Second team
- 2007 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Semi-finalist
Strengths:
Dykstra has been on scouts’ radar since he starred for national powerhouse Rancho Bernardo HS. He put up a bananas freshman year and followed it up with another impressive season. He’s a power hitting first baseman who has proven his mettle in the competitive ACC. Dykstra is a complete hitter, driving the ball to all fields and showing good plate discipline (he has little support behind him in the lineup so opponents pitch around him). He hangs in well against lefties and can shorten his swing with two strikes.
Weaknesses:
Dykstra is a below-average fielder who will be limited to first base. He also needs to cut down on his strikeouts.
The Future:
A team looking for a proven college bat could take him in the first round, but he’s more likely to slip into the supplemental.
